the backstory
From Bama to Berklee to Nashville!
the beginning...
At the age of 15, Mark landed his first playing performance in his hometown of Gadsden, Alabama, and then toured throughout the southeastern United States. Following his graduation from high school, Mark was granted a two year scholarship to Gadsden State Junior College in the Big Band Jazz program. In 1985, with the encouragement from family and friends, Mark accepted the opportunity to attend Berkley College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in film scoring and performance. Mark’s southern style was like a breath of fresh air in Boston, opening the door for concert performances with faculty members at Berkley. After just nine shows, Mark was granted a full scholarship, a stepping stone to a dynamic music career. Mark began to record for music production and engineering classes as a singer/songwriter developing and producing his own original music.
the move...
Upon completing his five year program at Berkley in 1990, Mark moved to Nashville to play in a band with the late Bee Spears long time bass player for Willie Nelson and Family Band which led to three performances with Willie in 1991-92. His career took off with the Gaylord Entertainment Company’s Opryland Theme park & Grand Ole’ Opry performing with #1 show Tim Watson & Black Creek. Mark’s performances included several Grand Ole’ Opry Tourism Shows where he performed with many Opry superstars. Mark displayed his versatile talents, performing favorite country songs as well as original material on the Grand Ole’ Opry stage. Mark to date has amazingly done over 4000 with Tim Watson since 1990. With over 1000+ corporate entertainment shows under his belt, Mark is still performing with Tim Watson, NashVegas Allstars, Nashville Bluetones and other Opryland veterans Bob Fortner and Gary Jenkins doing corporate shows at the Country Music Hall of Fame, Nashville Convention Center, Opryland Hotel and venues around the country for such corporate giants as: Harley Davidson, Toyota, AFLAC, RV, SouthTrust Bank, Coca-Cola, General Motors, Anheuser Busch, Kimberly Clark, Alcoa and many more.
the studio...
Mark owns and operates Mark Dreyer Productions, a Pro-Tools / Finalcut Pro production and recording facility in Hendersonville, TN. One can usually find Mark producing master recording projects and fine tuning his craft rendering numerous recordings for major publishers such as BMG, Warner Chapel, Savannah Music Group, along with many independent labels. In addition Mark’s dynamic playing on various songwriter showcases created the opportunity to co-write and produce song in the studio with many legendary songwriters from established & publishing companies. Mark has written songs with Hank Cochran, Red Lane, Steve Clark, Mark Peterson, Dave Gibson, Jim Foster, Don Goodman, Beverly Ross and Mark Gray among others. He is a published writer with Co-Heart Music, Warner Chapel, Double J Music, Opryland Music and others. In 1992 he founded his own publishing company Marcus Alan Music (BMI) and had a song called ” I Know You Hear Me” on Engelburt Humperdink’s album titled “After Dark”.

Marks music video “Betty’s Beauty World” was airing with over nine million projected viewers on CMT in Europe and the UK for 6 months until CMT Europe went off the air. “Mark Dreyer is an amazing producer-arranger-guitarist. He’s highly talented in the many instruments he plays, as well as being the very best arranger that I’ve ever had. He listens, and is able to get the exact feeling that I needed in my songs. Mark is also extremely easygoing, which is a major plus in this business. He’s worth driving 1,300 miles for his productions!”

Mark, I have been meaning to shoot you a note, but the job has been hectic. I really appreciated your patience with the FedEx Man project. I know it is frustrating working with a person new to the Studio. You exhibited a level of professionalism I really was glad to see. I do believe I learned more about making a record in the four or so months we were in Studio, than I have in the last ten years. The quality of the Recordings I received was outstanding and your talent as a Producer in my opinion is unparallel. I hope that you are a part of the final Album we come out with. You probably get lots of these letters from admiring Artists. So once again thank you for your part in this venture. I call you Producer and I hope Friend.

I live in Branson, Missouri and as many musicians as there are here I could not get the sound I wanted. Thanks to M.C.A. Records- they referred me to Mark, and I got more than my money’s worth.

Not long ago I sent some demo packages to record companies and producers in the Nashville area and was offered a production agreement from a Nashville record company. When I began checking the reputation of the record company everyone I spoke to said they were reliable. However, Will Beasley, Director of Music Business Development at the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce said the name of the company rang a bell and advised me to not sign anything until I received his correspondence. Will sent me a package that included photocopies of newspaper articles about questionable practices in which the record company was involved. Based on this information I decided to decline the offer and follow-up on the other packages. That’s how I contacted you. In our initial conversation you took the time to explain what you thought would be best for me, the concepts behind your reasoning and the services you could offer. You also encouraged me to call around to see what others could do and to check your references as well. After saving me from a potentially disastrous situation with the production agreement I called Will Beasley for his recommendation. His reply was: “I know Mark personally and I can guarantee that you are in good hands.” Will was absolutely right. I recently signed my first publishing deal with Music In the Right Keys Publishing for three of the songs from our session. My publisher is very excited about the material and asks for more every time I speak to him. Your contribution made it possible. THANK YOU for all the help and guidance.
Please contact me if I can be of any service to you.
Thanks again!
Sincerely,
Jerry Wayne Cook

I would not hesitate to recommend Studio 23 to anyone. Your relaxed, yet professional, atmosphere stands out among the other recording facilities. As you know, most of my clients come from out of town, but you never cease to make them feel right at home.

What great luck to have been lucky enough to find two of the most professional men in the recording business. Mark your skills as a guitar player can make people feel every note that you play. Jeff with your personality, salesmanship, and your ability to build confidence in the people you work with made me feel right at home. It made me feel as if I had known you guys forever. The three songs we did together, turned out to be really good songs and I learned so much about what it takes to record a song and the recording business. I have been working on several new songs and I hope by some time in July to have recorded my songs and have a video made. Once again thank you very much. I look forward to seeing you soon. Thanks for all of your help.
Your Honored Student,
